Every day, thousands of unfortunate traders fall victim to scam brokers and crypto fraudsters. That is why the emergence of dozens of chargeback services promising to quickly recover funds stolen by criminals comes as no surprise. However, 9 out of 10 such companies are not above profiting from the money of trusting clients themselves. Our PayBack LTD review focuses on one service that, at first glance, appears quite legitimate. A firm boasting exceptionally high success rates (claiming to have recovered over 41 million USD for fraud victims) and a team of experienced professionals is always ready to step in and help deceived users once again. But is this really the case? Let’s take a closer look below.

Let’s Identify the Company’s Background

PayBack LTD presents itself as a successful service specializing in recovering funds for those who have fallen victim to fraud. The information published by the company looks impressive: as of December 2025, the total amount of recovered funds allegedly exceeded 41 million USD, and its scope of operations supposedly covers almost the entire world. We would be happy to believe this, but among such platforms there are far more scammers than honest operators. That is why we prefer to begin our assessment by verifying the official information.

Payback Ltd Jurisdiction and Regulation

On the official website of the service, as proof of its global activity, one can find statements about the legality of its operations in different countries and, which is rather rare even for legitimate chargeback services, a registration number and address in Israel. Checking this information in the Israeli business registry is straightforward.

Confirmation of the PayBack LTD official registration and date of incorporation.

As it turns out, the company Money Back Ltd, which according to the website manages the service, is indeed registered in Israel on August 28, 2017, under number 515711653. Since the activities of such services are not regulated or licensed under local law, there is no point in searching for a license number in this case.

However, it is possible to verify, for example, information about its lawful activities in Australia. For this, one needs to refer to the databases of ASIC, which maintains all business registers, not only those related to financial regulation.

Verification of the PayBack LTD presence and status in Australian business registers.

The results show that the name Money Back is quite common in Australian business: the search returned more than two dozen companies with similar names. A firm with the BRN indicated on the service’s website is indeed present in the registry, but it is far from being the only entity with that name and includes companies registered in other countries as well. At the same time, there is no confirmation in the Australian regulator’s registry that this entity was established specifically by the Israeli company.

Such confirmation, however, was found in the database of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), which handles disputes between users/consumers and sellers or service providers.

Confirmation of the Australian representative's membership in the AFCA dispute resolution system.

The Australian branch of PayBack is a member of this organization, and the database clearly lists the domain www.payback.com, which currently hosts the service’s official website. Thus, information about the company’s operations in Australia is fully confirmed.

Unfortunately, no similar confirmation of the platform’s activities in the EU, the UK, or the USA could be found, as the owners have failed to publish official details on the website. Claims that the company operates under the supervision of the UK regulator FCA were also not confirmed. The Israeli company is mentioned only in connection with a scam warning titled Money Back / Pay Back Ltd (Clone of FCA Authorised Firm), which states that the fraudulent product has no relation to the Israeli company. At the same time, the original firm behind the clone is identified as the British MONEYBACK LTD, with FCA reference number 831685 and company registration number 08335706. However, this UK company has no connection whatsoever to the Israeli entity.

Interesting fact! The platform failed to confirm its operations precisely in those jurisdictions where regulatory requirements for such services are the strictest. In the UK, authorization as a Claims Management Company (CMC) is mandatory; without such a license from the FCA, operations are illegal. In many US states, a Debt Collector license is required, along with authorization from the CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). In Europe, individual countries enforce their own, often quite strict, regulatory requirements. None of these conditions have been met by Money Back Ltd. Accordingly, the company has no legal right to operate officially or represent clients’ interests in these countries. At best, it can offer international financial consulting, which has little in common with a genuine chargeback service.

Thus, information about the company’s registration in Israel and the operation of its Australian branch raises no doubts. At the same time, the rest of the claims about the firm’s international activity lack documentary confirmation. This raises a reasonable question: are the service’s owners attempting to mislead potential clients, given that without official representations in other countries, they have no legal grounds to investigate fraudulent activity or pursue recoveries on behalf of users?

Payback-ltd.com History

We have already established that the Israeli company Money Back Ltd, which operates under the PayBack brand, was registered in August 2017. To determine how long it has been providing services online, we turned to domain history.

Analysis of the payback-ltd.com domain history and the service's online presence.

We found that the primary domain on which the service’s website was originally launched — payback-ltd.com — was registered on August 2, 2017, just a few days before the company’s official registration. This is quite understandable, as the website would typically be prepared several weeks before the project’s launch. Today, however, this address is used only to redirect users to the current active website — payback.com. The latter has existed online since 1997.

However, snapshots from the web archive show that the service acquired this domain only in 2023. We suspect this was a forced move, as the previous domain had become compromised. In 2023, the German regulator BaFin published a warning stating that the domain paybackltd.com (the difference from payback-ltd.com, which we discuss in our review, is minimal) was associated with scammers. To avoid further issues, the Israeli company moved its website to a different domain and set up a permanent redirect from the old address.

Overall, we can say that the company’s online and offline histories began almost simultaneously. At the same time, its track record spans more than eight years — a relatively rare and respectable case for services of this type.

Due Diligence: Onboarding & Funding

Even users who have lost large sums to scammers are primarily interested in the conditions under which a chargeback service is willing to take on the recovery of their funds. First of all, this usually includes:

  • The timeframe, at least approximate, required for the preliminary investigation and the recovery procedure itself.
  • The documents the firm needs to begin work and later file claims against fraudsters.
  • A list of organizations the company works with (for example, banks where it has official accreditation).
  • The service fee in case of a successful outcome, whether an advance payment is required to cover staff expenses, the size of such an advance, and the settlement procedure after completion.

PayBack LTD, however, takes its own approach to this issue. Most of the information listed above is not disclosed. At the same time, the website does provide pricing for its main services — and it must be said, the figures are quite striking.

Analysis of service costs, advance payments, and financial terms.

For example, an investigation into fraudulent activity will cost the user $3,500, plus $750 for each transaction. Importantly, this amount must be paid upfront, before the investigation even begins. What does the client receive in return for this money?

  • Case analysis, the actual content of which is unknown.
  • Collection of evidence of fraudulent activity.
  • An investigation report.
  • An action plan for recovering the funds.
So what does this amount to? The company does not actually carry out any real recovery actions — the end product of its work is merely an action plan. Who is supposed to implement it: the client themselves or the service’s specialists? We found no answers to this question on the website.

We are confident that the company has serious reasons for not publishing this information openly. Judge for yourself: is there any reason to hide a list of partner banks with which the service closely cooperates and where it is officially accredited? Clearly not — on the contrary, such information would strengthen the company’s reputation and build client trust.

Most likely, PayBack LTD avoids answering uncomfortable questions because its authority is limited to consulting services. Perhaps it can do more only in Israel or Australia (in the latter case, by filing a complaint with AFCA, which can issue a binding decision).

It is also noteworthy that an investigation into crypto-related fraud costs the client the same $3,500. While cases involving funds stolen via bank transfers or debit/credit cards may have a relatively high chance of success, achieving a positive outcome in cryptocurrency cases is extremely difficult. So what exactly is the company charging such a substantial, non-refundable upfront fee for?

What is most striking is that the company openly advertises a “Your money back guarantee” on its official website. We stopped believing in stories about guaranteed fund recovery — especially of digital assets — long ago. The reason is simple: not a single major cryptocurrency theft has ever been fully resolved. According to 2024 results alone, hackers and scammers stole over $3 billion in crypto assets, while only about $400 million was recovered — not even one-sixth of the total. And that involved real professionals from major crypto projects and law enforcement agencies. Is PayBack LTD capable of assembling a team of that caliber? If so, and if the company offers guarantees, why haven’t all victims of crypto scams and hacks become its clients?

There are no answers to these questions on the website. We strongly doubt the company’s owners have them, either.

Pay attention! The website footer contains a link to the Terms & Conditions. This document should have answered at least some of these questions. However, its text does not describe the provision of services at all — it relates only to the use of the website. Moreover, at the very beginning of Section 3 there is a telling phrase stating that the company provides “advice and guidance.” Does this mean participation in real chargeback procedures should not be expected at all? If so, how were the statistics about recovering $41 million for fraud victims actually achieved?

PayBack LTD Conditions and Manipulations

We have already discussed the size of the fees the service charges its clients. We can add that the initial (preliminary) consultation is provided free of charge. It is likely during this stage that the service’s representatives determine whether it makes sense to take on an investigation at all and agree with the user on its scope and expected outcome.

The problem is that it is impossible to speak of any standardized approach to these discussions or agreements. The service’s actual capabilities depend heavily on the jurisdiction in which it would have to conduct the investigation. For example, in Australia, it can not only clarify all the circumstances of a case and propose an action plan, but also file a complaint with AFCA. In Europe or the United States, however, even obtaining detailed information about the scammers’ actions may prove problematic.

Overall, PayBack LTD’s pricing approach is quite understandable. If the company does not participate directly in the chargeback procedure and only conducts an investigation while providing the user with an action plan for fund recovery, it makes little sense to expect a success-based commission. In this case, it is far more profitable to charge a fixed fee upfront, before any work begins. The results described in the offers will be delivered regardless, and the service is not required to account for the costs incurred to achieve them. It is an excellent model: minimal expenses and maximum efficiency — of course, for the company itself.

At the same time, the company does not even need partners or official accreditation with payment services or banks. After all, the actual actions must be taken by the client personally. Admittedly, without such access, there may be difficulties in obtaining full transaction information, but this problem is considered solvable.

Payback-ltd.com Withdrawal Integrity & Exit Process

To be honest, the way the service’s operations are organized is quite striking. It does not handle clients’ funds at all (except for receiving payment for its services). This effectively shields it from claims by both users and government authorities.

However, not everything is so smooth for PayBack LTD. Over the years, it has accumulated a large number of reviews — more than 2,000 on Trustpilot alone. Among them, a significant portion is negative: 23%, meaning that over 450 users are dissatisfied with the company’s services.

The main complaint from these, frankly, disappointed clients concerns the final result. We will once again remind that the company presents itself as a fund recovery service. In reality, however, all the user receives are investigation results and an action plan, while any concrete steps must be taken independently. This is precisely why the word scam frequently appears in user comments about the firm.

To be fair, the official website never explicitly states that the company itself will retrieve funds from scammers and return them to victims. Still, clients’ expectations are shattered: people are simply not prepared to pay such substantial sums for a few explanations and copies of documents sent by email.

Strengths & Weaknesses Analysis

  • Impressive service performance statistics presented on the official website.
  • The company is genuinely registered in Israel and has a long operational history.
  • Information about the firm’s international activities is not fully reliable.
  • The company does not actually recover funds; all its services are limited to investigations and the preparation of an action plan for the client.
  • The cost of such consulting services is extremely high.
  • The company does not even provide a sample agreement that could clarify most key questions.
  • Incomplete disclosure of information has led to a large number of negative reviews about the service.

Investment Risk Summary

Based on the materials of our payback.com review, it is difficult to make an unambiguous assessment of this service. Yes, the Israeli company is one of the most well-known and longest-operating firms in the fund recovery assistance sector. Yes, it is officially registered, can demonstrate successful cases of recovering large sums, and often appears in the media as a recognized expert in combating fraud. However, its fees are high, the results are purely “on paper,” and its ability to operate in other countries is quite limited. From our point of view, paying for this service is not worth it.

Do not give this service your money! PayBack LTD will not return anything to you — it takes no real action. I paid almost $5,000 to recover funds stolen from me by a Forex scam. And what did I get? An email explaining that I had indeed dealt with scammers, and a plan outlining what I should do to get my money back. A plan! That is, I was expected to take it and handle the recovery myself, following its steps. I always thought chargeback worked differently. But it turns out there’s a scam even here, even when a company has been operating for nearly 10 years.

Want Payback LTD to return your money? Forget it. These scammers are no worse than those who stole your money. They explain everything so beautifully during the free consultation, convincing you of their professionalism so much, that you won’t even notice you’re signing the agreement and sending them the fee. And, of course, you won’t even read it, because right before your eyes is the $40 million these professionals “returned” to their clients. But before you sign up for that consultation, take a close look at the website. What are they promising you? Nothing, just advice and guidance. Are you willing to pay for that?
